Candles

Aldi Candle and Reed Diffusers

Aldi Candes and Reed Diffusers

When these candles first launched I was desperate to get my hands on one as they were calling them a Jo Malone dupe, people were seen queuing outside their local Aldi stores on launch day to get one before work, now personally I have better things to do and I am defiantly not going to queue up for a £3.99 candle! Surely thats just crazy! The first few times I went into Aldi the staff just looked at me like I was mad, when I asked if they had any of these candles I was told on several occasions that they go within minutes of them hitting the shelves, but as time went by and probably along with Aldi producing more and the craze dying down I have now managed to get my hands on a nice little selection.

I am obsessed with candles and reed diffusers, my house is full of them and I have a little stash so I never run out, I really love the high end candles but at £45+ for a Jo Malone this is something I will only buy as a treat or stick on my Christmas list!

The Aldi candle itself  is encased in a contemporary glass jar which looks stylish in any home and has a burn time of 48 hours, it is available in 3 different fragrances – No 1 Lime, Basil and mandarin, No 2 Blackberry Bay and No 3 Pomegranate Noir, all 3 scents smell devine, however it is NOT a Jo Malone candle and therefore when it burns it does not give the room that full strong fresh smell like a Jo Malone or Yankee candle would, it has a much fainter scent.

The reed diffusers are also stylish and have a contemporary feel, they claim to release the fragrance for up to 2 months, I’ve only just opened mine so we will have to wait and see.  So far I have seen 3 different fragrances available – No 1 Lime, Basil and mandarin, No 3 Pomegranate Noir and No 4 English Freesia and Pear. Now I have to admit I like the selection of reed diffusers that the retailer Next sell as they have a strong scent that lasts for months however as a cheaper alternative these Aldi diffusers are great and still release a good scent, to keep the scent going for longer just turn the reeds.

Overall the Aldi products are excellent value for money at £3.99 a piece you really cannot  complain, should they be compared to a higher value brand, personally I don’t believe they should, they don’t give that full smell which you would expect to get from your Jo Malone, Yankee Candle or similar products however its great marketing and I certainly wanted one! The Aldi candle and reed diffusers do have a sleek stylish look which can be compared to the more luxurious brands and for £3.99 I will say that I am a fan and I will be buying more in the future, you really cant go wrong!

For those that love this product Aldi will be releasing limited edition gift sets on the 7th December in store containing 3 different scents, I certainly won’t be queuing for one but I look forward to hopefully seeing them in my local store soon.

  1. Great photos. Have you ever tried fragrance free candles?

A lot of scented candles contain limonene. When the candles burn, they produce formaldehyde, which is highly toxic. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/12103003/Why-scented-candles-could-cause-cancer.html

btw; I wrote a short essay (450 words) called “The Moral Argument Against Fragranced Products.” If you would like to read it, I am open to any feedback: https://christopherjohnlindsay.wordpress.com/2017/11/04/fragranced-products/
